Don’t Discount Intuitive Wisdom About Your Health

After living for half of a century, we have curated much wisdom. And wisdom is part of our inner knowing. I had to decide that my health was a priority in my life.  And I had to determine I would do what I needed to get healthy. Otherwise, it wasn’t going to happen. It all started in my head. And this was the hardest of all the steps for me. And continues to be for me.

We already know what we need to do and stop doing. Gavin De Becker’s book, The Gift of Fear, was the first to convince me that I needed to pay attention to my gut reaction, even though I couldn’t explain why. I have come to listen to my body and appreciate my intuitive way of knowing.

Brene’ Brown shares, “Intuition is not independent of any reasoning process. Psychologists believe intuition is a rapid, unconscious associating process like a mental puzzle. The brain observes, scans the files, and matches the observation with existing memories, knowledge, and experiences. Once it puts together a series of matches, we get a “gut” on what we’ve observed.”  Brown is a researcher and academic known for her work on shame and vulnerability.

So, don’t ignore what your body (or intuition) tells you. I have come to listen to this wisdom.

But don’t beat yourself up for whatever your situation is. Just move forward.
